Qaida's European Truce Ends
ROME
(AP) - A three-month offer of a terrorism
truce purportedly made by Osama bin Laden
expired Thursday with little notice in
the European countries invited to accept
it.
After
the taped message was broadcast on Islamic
satellite networks April 15, CIA officials
said technical analysis of the recording
indicated it probably was authentic.
"I
announce a truce with the European countries
that do not attack Muslim countries,''
said the audiotape by a man identifying
himself as bin Laden.
"The
door to a truce is open for three months,''
but the time frame could be extended.
"`The truce will begin when the last
soldier leaves our countries,'' the speaker
said without elaborating.
The
truce was an apparent effort to drive
a wedge between Europe and America, and
was quickly spurned by Britain, Germany,
Italy and Spain.
As
the deadline passed in European capitals,
where security forces already were on
increased alert, there was no apparent
change in the resolve to battle terrorism.
Possible
al Qaida Threat Against Italy
IanLivingston.Com Exclusive
This
is an ultimatum to the Italian people.
Either get rid of Berlusconi, the Incapable,
or -specifically- we will burn Italy.
This is a clear equation. We're indicating,
to clear our conscience at this point,
that you have been warned. After this,
the next message you will see on your
earth - you won't be reading it on an
Internet site.
Berlusconi
promises you only blood and total slavery
to the United States...I remind you again
of the great Italian journalist Antonio
Rosso who was killed by Putin's secret
service because he shared in the suffering
of our brothers in Chechnya where he was
welcome. Berlusconi has not lifted a finger
to ask for an open investigation into
that murder.

Sicken Passengers on Southwest Flight
LINTHICUM,
Md. -- A passenger vomited onboard a plane
just before it landed at Baltimore-Washington
International Airport late Thursday night.
A
Southwest Airlines flight from Houston
that was supposed to dock at BWI's Gate
C11 was initially reported to have as
many as 12 people onboard who were not
conscious when the plane landed, WBAL-TV
11 News reporter John Sherman reported.
But airline officials told 11 News that
one person was passed out on the plane
after vomiting. That set off an apparent
chain reaction as five others also became
ill. The first person refused treatment
at the scene after the plane landed, but
at least one person was reported to have
been transported to a local hospital,
11 News reported.
Ozzy
Osbourne Compares Bush to Hitler
WANTAGH,
N.Y., July 14 — "Enjoy yourself
— while you still can," Tom
Araya of Slayer told the crowd at Ozzfest
halfway through a low-slung, fast and
unpretentious set here tonight. And that's
a fine doom-trope, a typical metal pensée:
live hard and prevail over the weak-willed,
for the horned one doth await with sharpened
fang and scythe.
But
it was also a weather report. By the end
of Slayer's set, the first raindrops wet
the Jones Beach Amphitheater, and it stormed
miserably for the next two hours, right
through Judas Priest's reunion set and
into the first quarter of Black Sabbath's
closing performance.
...
"War
Pigs," the opener, was the best song
of the set and the entire day. To double
the force of the music, the giant screens
next to the stage showed pictures of President
Bush juxtaposed with pictures of Hitler.
It
may have been Mr. Osbourne's shrewd answer
to the Bush campaign's recent Internet
advertisement "Coalition of the Wild-Eyed,"
which sets film of various Democratic
leaders fulminating against films of Hitler
fulminating. Another image during the
same song showed the president with a
red dot superimposed on his nose; the
caption read "Bush the Clown."
One more showed Mr. Bush's face with a
slash across it, reading "Wanted."

al Qaida Militant Surrenders to Saudis
LONDON,
England (CNN) -- A Saudi militant has
turned himself in to authorities in Syria,
Saudi security sources said Thursday,
the second such surrender in two days.
The
militant, Ibrahim al-Harbi, gave himself
up Thursday at the Saudi Embassy in Damascus,
sources said.
He
is said to have met with Osama bin Laden
in Afghanistan after the September 11,
2001, attacks on the United States.
On
Tuesday, another militant, Khalid al-Harbi,
surrendered to the Saudi Embassy in Tehran,
Iran, and was flown to Saudi Arabia.
Both
men, who are thought to be from the same
Saudi tribe but not necessarily closely
related, appear to be taking advantage
of a 30-day leniency offer extended by
Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah last month.
