Powell Says Bin Laden Is Alive But On The Run
nbc4i.com

WASHINGTON -- Secretary of State Colin Powell says he believes Osama bin Laden is on the run.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Powell says he has no evidence to back up his claim the al-Qaida leader is alive -- but he thinks bin Laden is still in hiding.

He says bin Laden "is not showing himself in a way that he can be captured." His comments come the day before the third anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

He also said while the United States has taken out al-Qaida's most experienced and accomplished leaders, the terror network still has "the capacity to regenerate itself."

Ridge Urges Americans To Be Prepared For Emergencies
TheBostonChannel.com

WASHINGTON -- Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge thinks more than just the Boy Scouts should "be prepared," so he has declared September "National Preparedness Month."

Ridge says more than 80 organizations in every state and U.S. territory will work with Homeland Security to plan events and get "critical preparedness information" to more communities. The organizations include the Red Cross, the Chamber of Commerce and even Starbucks.

For example, the Red Cross will encourage local chapters to participate in Together We Prepare on Saturday, Sept. 18, with events such as first-aid trainings and preparedness fairs. The Girl Scouts will hold preparedness teach-in sessions across the country for scouts and their families.

NASCAR will also take part, airing public service announcements and putting up kiosks at its events.

Muslim group takes responsibility for 9-11: 'We are so sorry'
World Tribune.com

This September 11 marks the third unforgettable anniversary of the worst mass murder in American history.

After September 11, many in the Muslim world chose denial and hallucination rather than face up to the sad fact that Muslims perpetrated the 9-11 terrorist acts and that we have an enormous problem with extremism and support for terrorism. Many Muslims, including religious leaders, and “intellectuals” blamed 9-11 on a Jewish conspiracy and went as far as fabricating a tale that 4000 Jews did not show up for work in the World Trade Center on 9-11. Yet others blamed 9-11 on an American right wing conspiracy or the U.S. Government which allegedly wanted an excuse to invade Iraq and “steal” Iraqi oil.

After numerous admissions of guilt by Bin Laden and numerous corroborating admissions by captured top level Al-Qaida operatives, we wonder, does the Muslim leadership have the dignity and courage to apologize for 9-11?

If not 9-11, will we apologize for the murder of school children in Russia?

If not Russia, will we apologize for the train bombings in Madrid, Spain?

If not Spain, will we apologize for suicide bombings in buses, restaurants and other public places?

U.S.: Islamist carnage in Sudan is 'genocide'
WorldNetDaily

The United States is calling the rape, pillaging and slaughter of blacks in western Sudan by the Islamist Khartoum regime and its Arab militia allies genocide.

"We concluded that genocide has been committed in Darfur and that the government of Sudan and the Janjaweed [tribal militia] bear responsibility and genocide may still be occurring," said Secretary of State Colin Powell in testimony this morning to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The U.S. is formally bringing the issue before the U.N. Security Council, calling for oil sanctions and an increase in African Union troops.

Activists who have monitored atrocities committed by Sudan's cleric-backed National Islamic Front regime and its allies for many years hailed the U.S. declaration.

Second Cell Poised for Indonesia Attack, Australia Says
ABC News

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Militants responsible for a deadly car bomb blast outside Australia's Jakarta embassy have a second group poised for attack, Australia's top policeman said on Saturday as Australians heard a fresh warning to avoid Indonesia.

"There is intelligence suggesting that there is a second group active in the area," Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty told Australian Broadcasting Corp.

"Intelligence comes through all the time about threats and possible threats and there's further intelligence in the last 24 to 48 hours of a second group," said Keelty, who flew to Jakarta to investigate the blast. Indonesian police have launched a nationwide hunt for al Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiah militants blamed for the suicide car bomb attack that killed nine people and injured 182 outside the Australian embassy on Thursday.

Keelty's warning came as Australian government ministers broke off campaigning for an Oct. 9 election to gather in Sydney for a cabinet security committee meeting. Opposition Labor leaders were also meeting to discuss security issues.

Canada : Terrorism Not a Fear
Toronto Sun

A MAJORITY of Canadians think Canada won't be a likely target for terrorists in the next two years, according to a poll released yesterday. The survey conducted for the Centre for Research and Information on Canada indicates 56% think possible terrorist attacks aren't likely over the next 24 months but 42% do fear an imminent attack.

The numbers are even closer when Ontario results are considered alone, said Gina Bishop, research projects co-ordinator for CRIC, the federally supported non-partisan research arm of the Canadian Unity Council.

Only 51% in Ontario don't expect terrorism in Canada in the near future, while 47% are more antsy.
